A Day For Thanks!!!

$

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year not only because it ushers in the cool weather (finally!) and Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes, but also because it brings one of the best holidays with it: Thanksgiving!!

Source

Thanksgiving reminds us all of how two diverse peoples, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians, came together to give thanks to each other and hope for a new friendship. Today it’s a special day to give thanks for all that we have been blessed with and for the people who are special to us. I am grateful for my faith, my wonderful family, my amazing staff, my clients, friends and the endless support from all of you which has continued to encourage me to peruse all I am passionate about!!! Many hugs!

Off to Tabletop Decor............

I showed up for a photo-shoot in a home that will be featured in our second book I am working on and the homeowner had such alovely Thanksgiving table set.  This tone on tone setting fit so well with her new décor which we took from dark yellows, greens and reds!! I posted this picture on Facebook and got so many warm wishes for publishing another book and homeowner Susie got over 200 likes on her tablescape!  Many thanks to my Facebook friends!!!

Source

White pumpkins always work with any tabletop setting!! By carving out the center of the pumpkin, inserting a glass, and filling it with a colorful floral arrangement, you can create quite the centerpiece.

Source

Martha has a simpler version of white but still just as pretty!! That table runner looks like paper which is so fun for people to doodle about what they are thankful for right on the table and then read what they wrote!!

Source

For a rustic look, use slices of a tree trunk as plate chargers. I'm also loving the pumpkins and squash carved out and used as bowls. I found a few different options for thickness and size that you can purchase at DIY superstore, Save on Crafts, starting at $10 each!!

Source

Another twist to this same idea -- simply core some red apples and fill them with tea lights. Beautiful!!

Place Card Holders...........
...........one of my favorite ways to make a table special! Follow the links below each photo for instructions on how to recreate. These are simple to make and would be a fun family activity for the kids ages big and small!!

Nothing says "Fall" like pumpkins and this Roast Pumpkin Risotto is literally making my mouth water!!

Source

Thanksgiving would just not be the same without desserts - especially all of the pie!! This Apple Pie with Rosettes is stunning - I absolutely cannot wait to try this one myself!

Pumpkin shaped cheese balls mixed with cranberry and goat cheese make perfect Thanksgiving appetizers.

If you have any favorite recipes or fun tabletop decor for the Fall or Thanksgiving please do share!! I would love to include them on the blog for next Thanksgiving. Just send me an email with the recipe or pics of your table.  I get as much inspiration from all of you as you feel may get from me! I hope everyone has a blessed day with their loved ones!! Organize It!

Most people think of spring time cleaning but because we are starting a home renovation in Jan. I need to de-clutter and organize everything before Christmas descends upon us!! In looking for tips for my own home, I have stumbled on a few faves that I would like to share!!

In the Kitchen!!

Source

Of course everything Brooke Giannetti, from the blog Velvet & Linen, does is fab! I have gotten to where I like to keep my silverware out - easy access!! Love these converted French candle holders as a silverware caddy!

In our little office kitchen, you can find our silverware living in rustic tin cans that we also sell in the boutique. At around $9 per tin, this is a charming and budget-friendly way to organize your cutlery!!

Source

Why is it that the utensil drawers always end up in such disarray? Something as simple as using pretty little baskets and a knife holder can section off much needed drawer space so you can neatly stock all of your serving spoons, knives, and cheese graters in one place!! The Container Store is a great resource for finding small baskets and organizers such as these. If you are starting from scratch I have found a great website Rev-A-Shelf which has pull out baskets, lazy susans, and all sorts of wonderful things to make better use of your cabinetry in your bathrooms, kitchens, utility and craft rooms!  Lowes and Home Depot also carries this line!!

Source

If you like the idea of using baskets for utensils, try adding larger baskets made for storage as the perfect organizational flourish in a pantry as well!!

At the shop we filled the bottom shelving with baskets like these from Ikea who has amazing prices and put our various items in there - they pull out like drawers and make it so much easier to keep organized in a small kitchen!!

Source

For a pantry or small closet, you can remove the shelves and install sliding drawers instead. What a fantastic way to get more from a space!! I, of course, would put a pretty finish on those drawers!!!!

Laundry Rooms!!!

Source

An inexpensive way to add hanging space to a laundry room or broom closet is to mount a towel rack upside down. Now why didn't I think of this??

Source

Take it a step further and install multiple towel racks and hang storage baskets from them. Zip ties are great ways to secure your assortment which can be filled with just anything!!! If you're not up for a full do-it-yourself project, Pottery Barn sells the Hannah Basket Wall System which provides the same look and versatile storage starting at $49.

Source

Labeling the baskets, bins, and tins in a laundry room is a great way to stay organized!! Gift tags work well to tie around the weave of baskets while spraying chalk paint in a circle would be a picture-perfect way to decorate and label bins and buckets! You can buy Rustoleum's Specialty Chalkboard Paint from Home Depot which is very easy to apply.

Source

More sliding drawers! These conveniently hide laundry baskets and can help you sift through your darks, lights, and whites in a snap!!

I love this!! Glass jars can make lovely displays out of almost anything including powdered laundry detergent! We carry some wonderful oversized square jars we import from Belgium ($95) that would be perfect for your detergent!

Source

And of course, you can always utilize an alcove in a wall by hanging curtains that can be drawn closed to disguise anything and add a bit of softness to the room! There are those jars again full of detergent!!!

Bathrooms!!!

Source

Extra shelf space in your bathroom or even in the small room where the toilet lives can be functional and attractive by employing more of these multipurpose baskets and a few select pieces of decor. Even the toilet paper looks nice!!

Source

Super versatile PVC pipe comes in extremely handy inside bathroom cabinet doors to store your curling irons, brushes, or even your blow dryer. You can purchase pieces of PVC piping from your local hardware store, Home Depot, or Lowe's, or try looking online - I found some inexpensive options on Ali Baba.

Source

This open vanity cabinet demonstrates smart ways to tidy up the area under your bathroom sink. By utilizing the insides of the cabinet doors more effectively and adding a multi-level display inside, you can generate a lot of extra space that is visually appealing too! Or try these beautiful three-tier glass jars that we have at the Segreto Boutique for $55 to stack and showcase all of your cotton balls and q-tips!

Wrapping!!!

Source

Whether for your daughter's hair or for wrapping presents, ribbons and bows somehow always become a tangled mess. With a slotted Tupperware basket and a pair of dowel rods that are smaller than the holes, you can organize spools of ribbon into presentable bins.

Sources: 1 / 2

Both of the ideas above are such inventive ways to make use of dead space in a closet or craft room so that all of your holiday and gift wrapping materials are out of the way but still accessible.

Source

Source

After that, I'm feeling extremely inspired to get organized!! I am starting redoing my craft room office and will keep you updated on how it goes!! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a fabulous week to come!  Remember not many shopping days left for Christmas.  We have some wonderful gifts left for everyone on your list in our boutique.  Thank you Scout guide for including the Segreto Boutique in The Scout Guide’s 2013 National Gift Guide.  Their collection of the best of the best in 2013 gift giving!!

There is no Segreto sign. Extra parking in the back! We look forward to catching up with you all.  Till next Monday! Xo, Leslie

A Designer for the Holidays - Regina Gust

I have seen Regina’s work with Regina Gust Designs (formerly Twins Design Christmas) for years when working in homes around the Holidays.  I was fortunate to get to know her personally when we were in the same fab home(see here) together for an Easter deadline. I thought It would be fun to do a spotlight on her Christmas Decor, since for over 20 years, Regina has been decking Houston’s halls with exuberant decorations and in more recent times was featured in the Frontgate catalogue.  Whether she’s using fresh flowers, natural, glitzy or traditional elements, her creations always get the special “Regina” touch that give them a uniquely lush look.

Regina’s key goal in decorating for the Holidays is to bring joy to each client.  And joy she does bring through customizing each home for the holidays using the clients existing décor as inspiration.

This wouldn’t fit in my living room for sure, but it is really spreading Christmas cheer for the students at Stephen F. Austin College!  That is Regina, pretty as her tree, putting on its finishing touches. This tree absolutely glitters with its silver and gold decorations, fillers(sometimes call picks) and ribbons. Regina says fillers are essential for creating fullness in every design.

Fillers are branch like pieces that come in all styles that you can add into a base piece of garland or a tree. A good strategy is to add fillers first then ornaments and add the ribbons last.

You can get so much inspiration from all the different style represented on the trees at Regina's Holiday Boutique! This tree is adorned with natural decorations: pinecones, snowflakes and burlap ribbon. Every tree should have a little bit of sparkle and clear glass balls catch the light perfectly for a subtle shine in this organic look.

Garlands Galore………. One of Regina’s trademarks  is her stunning garlands, all saturated with ornaments, ribbons and accessories, from elegant to whimsical, all her beauties really make you want to jingle all the way!!

Flock the Halls……………………. Remember the flocked trees?  Well they are coming back. Regina loves using them for an all white look, mixing them with white ornaments, crystals  and ribbons creating a truly elegant statement.  See how she uses flocking in her designs below!!!!

Don’t stop at the tree!!!.......... To elicit holiday spirit throughout your house decorate, chandeliers, sconces and mirrors and more.

Outdoor spaces……………Outdoor mantels  and doors need a touch of holiday, too. Makes you want to snuggle up to the outdoor fire or welcome you into the home.

A fearless approach and passion for flair has helped Regina carve out a special niche in the luxury Holiday and event design market. Constantly evolving, her holiday business has expanded to include Halloween, Easter, Valentines and special events. Thanks Regina for sharing your holiday joy with us!!!
To contact Regina call 713.426.1226 or email regina@reginagust.com. To get inspired and find a special pieces to add to your own Holiday décor, visit Regina Gust Designs Holiday Boutique at 5005 Larkin, open seasonally M-Sat from 10-5

Along with our unique gifts, art and accessories we are so excited to feature jewelry designer Candice Dickerson at Segreto for our special Holiday shopping event this Thursday. Look forward to seeing you all! Feel free to pass on the invite or bring a friend!  Till then--xo  Leslie

Here's an idea that may actually get your children to set the table for you!! Using the picture above as a guide, arrange your plates and silverware to take the shape of a friendly winter snowman. Brightly colored paper napkins can be used to polish off the look as the perfect scarf and top hat. Don't forget to give your snowman some life with gumdrop eyes and a carrot nose!

Frosty Beverages and Festive Food!!
With everybody in such close quarters during parties and family get-togethers, having appetizers and drinks on hand is sure to make everyone a little merrier!!

Source

Cheese platters are fantastic appetizers to serve at any party. For an extra flourish, layer cubes of cheese and multi-color grapes in the shape of a Christmas tree and garnish with fresh parsley or thyme for a festive look. Don't forget the celery stalk as the tree trunk!!

Source

With a colorful presentation and plenty of sugar, this cranberry and rosemary white "Christmas" sangria looks as good as it tastes. Come to think of it, this could double as a centerpiece as well!!

Source

For this super cute idea, pour a cocktail or non-alcoholic refreshment into large plastic ornaments you can purchase from the craft store!! Helpful tip: Use a funnel to get the beverage in so you don't end up making a sticky mess!

A classic winter cocktail with a twist: The eggnog martini!!

Eggnog Martini

  • 2 1-2 oz. Eggnog
  • 1 oz. Van Gogh Vanilla  Vodka
  • 3/4 oz. Amaretto

Combine all ingredients in a shaker and shake over ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass and dust with freshly grated nutmeg or cinnamon. Cheers!!!

Seasonal Fashion!!
I can't help but love the glitz and glamour the Christmas season brings!! There is something so dazzling about sparkles, velvet, and lace, especially when it comes to fashion!! Now if I only had somewhere to wear these green velvet Gucci shoes...

Happy New Year!

Hi Everyone!!  I so hope you had a wonderful Holiday with your friends and family and a Happy New Year!! I am so sorry I have been under the radar for a couple of weeks but I was sick the entire break! I still had a wonderful time as all my kids were home, and when do I get to sit on the couch for 14 days and watch old movies, and catch up on a CW show called Heart of Dixie.  I've watched 2 and a half seasons and am hooked!!

2014 will be a fun year for me.  With the Houston real estate market being crazy, as well as my work load super busy, John and I decided to renovate our home of 26 years rather than move. Architect Ken Newberry who I have worked with on many amazing projects agreed to help.

I have never liked the exterior of our home built in the 60's although we did make some changes for the better when we first purchased it in the late 80's.  If I were building from scratch I would model the design after architecture that I love from the 20's. Ken definitely had to be creative on this one and as you can see below he met the challenge.

I was honestly brought to tears when the new elevation was unveiled. Believe it or not this is the same structure.  I love the  slurried brick, new dormers, and metal casement windows. Ken and his talented team turned my house into my dream home!!   Given it’s in our budget after the bidding process,  I am excited to take you with me every step of the way.

Getting ready for the renovation we will be confined to the back part of the house.  This is spurring us on to modifiy what used to be the Segreto offices (above) into space we can use now. My office to the left will eventually become the exercise room but during the construction we will turn it into Kirby's room since she is living at home with us.  The offices to the right are being renovated now to combine my office and a craft room.  I am almost done with it and can't wait to show you the final reveal!!

And of course there are all those New Years resoulutions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loose weight!!!!   I ordered premade meals from My Bistro MD.  They were having a sale for $99 for the first week.   The food is good, they ship it directly to your home and I was never hungry. I hope it works!!

Exercise!!!!!!

This  are great exercises for people who have not been regular exercisers like me to get you started!!!

Home remedy to whiten teeth I have been wanting to try!!!!!!

Option 1: Put a tiny bit of toothpaste into a small cup, mix in one teaspoon baking soda plus one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide, and half a teaspoon water. Thoroughly mix then brush your teeth for two minutes. Remember to do it once a week until you have reached the results you want. Once your teeth are good and white, limit yourself to using the whitening treatment once every month or two

Option 2: Dr. Oz Teeth Whitening Home Remedy: 1/4 cup of baking soda + lemon juice from half of a lemon. Apply with cotton ball or q-tip. Leave on for no longer than 1 minute, then brush teeth to remove.

Soften your feet!!!!

One of the best softening, detoxifying foot soaks ever! Fill a large bowl with warm water and add 1 cup apple cider vinegar with 1 cup Epsom salt. Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes, rinse and lightly scrub with pumice stone. Then say hello to gorgeous feet :)

I am excited to see what 2014 will bring!!!  Come visit us at the store this week as we are having an everything must go sale!!  (See Below).  Happy New Year to all and back to mmy regualr schedule!!!  Till next Monday!!  xo Leslie

A Visit To Aidan Gray!!!

I have always loved Aidan Gray's furniture and accessory line so I was very excited when I got the call to do a bit of handy work in their new showroom for the opening of Dallas Market  this week!

This isn't our first time working with Aidan Gray. We were honored to be a part of Cote de Texas' Aidan Gray contest where the design company's owner, Randal, redid the winning home with a houseful of beautiful furnishings.

On the inside page of his new catalogue, Sweet Randal put a shot of the rooms where Segreto applied both cabinet and plaster finishes along with our logo!  How nice is that!!

Aidan Gray's new showroom in the Dallas Market Center has a 140- by 8-foot corridor that runs through the space.  To differentiate this corridor from the rest of the room, he wanted the concrete stenciled in a very faded fashion, like the inspiration photo above.  I loved his logo and thought it'd look great to give hints of that design on the floor.  We drew out a stencil and sent it off to be reproduced! When we got the renderings back though, I just wasn't wowed.  There was no time left to start over so I turned to Royal Design Studio, a company we often purchase stencils from, to search for a precut one that would ship overnight and look fab!!

The design, featured here as the motif in a powder bath for designer Cindy Witmer, has always been one of my favorites! And I think it complements Aidan Gray's beautiful logo perfectly!

Here we are on site, laying laying out the pattern and working out the math (the most challenging part for me)!! John, the go-to guy for the Dallas showroom, moved all the furniture out of the corridor space so we could begin!  Thank you, John!!!

While the guys were getting started, I had some time to shop around and place an order for our little Boutique Gallery in Houston. It was so hard to choose - everything was so beautiful!!!  Here's a sneak peek of their wonderful treasures!

I really noticed how the showroom now carries some antique items!  Along with their exceptional reproductions, I spied a few one-of-a-kind treasures that would be the perfect finishing touch to a room's flavor.

This is a new line for the showroom... and I fell in love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They had shells and butterflies framed as well!  Put those in my cart please!!!

This new design, a skirted zinc table, is to die for!!

In the meantime, the guys have made great progress!

Before we and a few other trades started, the showroom had everything placed perfectly. But even with things stacked in corners, it wasn't hard to appreciate the many treasures!!  I adore those pedestals and the beautiful cornice!  I might need that for my renovation project!!

Randal and team really have outdone themselves this year, creating so many unique products - fresh and current, but with a timeless appeal!  I can't wait to go back next week and see everything put in its place and our floors completely finished!  If you are going to market, be sure to visit Aidan Gray at their new location on the fifth floor. You can also check out their pieces at your closest retailer or shop online.

Since I was driving back and forth the same day (about a 9-hour drive), I coaxed two of my besties into going with me.  We, of course, had to take a little break at my favorite pit stop!  Buc-ee's!! A road trip is never complete without getting some beaver gear! Hope everyone has a wonderful week!!  Till next Monday!  xo Leslie

Mix and Match Chairs - Break the Rules!!

Mixing and matching various chairs at a table, which has become more and more popular in design, can be a fabulous option to add interest to your kitchen, dining room or breakfast room. It may sound a bit unusual but when done well, the use of mismatched chairs can truly showcase your distinct personality and style!! Read on to see some exquisite examples of these eclectic collections that can be an extremely beautiful addition to a room!!

All Mixed Up!

Source

With this trend, although you are trying to blend an assortment of different seating together, you should strive to maintain at least one unifying element. This could be the fabric, paint, finish, size or style of the chair. Here, the chairs are all dissimilar styles and covered in various fabrics, but the color and tonality of each is neutral allowing them to work together in harmony.

Source

This beautiful room flaunts a wide array of chair styles and fabrics with the common thread being the lovely gray finish. So pretty!!

Source

Here, the cohesive elements at play are the neutral color palette and the rattan chairs interlaced into the group as every other seat.

Source

Incorporating a small couch or settee as one side of the table is an unexpected surprise and brings a little glam to this breakfast nook!

The Head of the Table

Source

An easy way to test the waters of mixing and matching chairs is to simply differentiate the chairs that sit at the heads of the table. Because the lengths of the head and sides of tables are usually different, it makes sense that they may call for different types of chairs.

Source

This is an interesting way to mix it up!! Unpretentious director's chairs and their slipcovered counterparts intermittently placed around the table. What fun!!

Source

I love how fresh and bright this kitchen is designed by Julie Dodson!! The white nubby slip covers shown at the table are fabulous additions!! If you would like a set of you own, contact Beadboard Upcountry!

Source

Many people adore the look of oversized upholstered chairs anchoring the two heads of a table. It has such a classic and established feel to it!!

In one of our client's homes in which we plastered and glazed the cabinetry, designer Leslie Strauss chose to mix the chair style around the breakfast table, giving them a gentleman's tailored flair. Love the monogram embroidered on the host and hostess chairs!!!

Modern Bench Seating
Bench seating, typically associated with a more rustic farmhouse style, can look fabulous when combined with other types of chairs around a table. It allows you to create an eclectic modern feel without losing any of that country charm!

Eclectic Events!
Mix and matched chairs are also completely on trend in the wedding and event industry, especially when a bride or hostess opts for a country or vintage vibe!! Take a look at the interesting seating arrangements below - so fun!!

Sources: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4

Now it's your turn to experiment!! If you are as intrigued by this combination seating as I am, start visiting estate sales, flea markets, antique shows and resale shops to look for the perfect pieces for you! Anything you can find can be recovered and of course, refinished, to realize your desired look!! I hope everyone has a fabulous week - Till next Monday!! Xo, Leslie

To market, to market, to market we go!!!!

Well I was really excited to go back to Dallas market to shop for the store and............ to see the floors that we painted the week before for the oh so lovely Aidan Gray showroom. Taking my right hand gal, Karen we hopped in the car and off we went!!!

The Crescent Hotel had very special rates for those attending market!!  I was thrilled; its walking distance from where my son lives and close to the Dallas Market!!!  Best of all its sooooooooooooo pretty!!!  I love how they hung the bubble vases off the centerpiece in the lobby where cute Karen is standing!!! We dropped off our bags, hopped in a cab and had them drop us off right in front of the Trade Center.  So much faster than looking for parking and walking (although to meet my New Year’s resolutions I should be walking.)

First stop Aidan Gray to see the floors!! It was so fun seeing everything put back together again! They are masters at this!!!  Look at the florals, drapes and their amazing new collection of furnishings, accessories and antique pieces!!

I was met by Randal, the genius behind this wonderful furnishing and accessory company!!! He looks pretty happy to show off all his new items!!!

The creativity of the displays really took my breath away!!

The mix between chic and old world really comes together in this show room. It allows one to have a collected look incorporating much of what they offer in your home without feeling like you went to one store and bought it all!!

Pheromone is a new line Aidan Gray is carrying in their showroom. It's a wonderful collection of beautifully framed minerals, shells and butterflies!!  We will be carrying these at Segreto--I fell in love!!!!!

The delish food was catered by Patina Green Home and Market-a wonderful restaurant and shop in McKinney. I have been and eaten there and their food is fresh home grown and AMAZING!!!!  We had lobster pizza for this event! SCRUMPTIOUS!!!

When you come to the Dallas Showroom say Hello to John! He is a permanent fixture there and is so knowledgeable about the line!!!  You see him with the famous "Aidan" of Aidan Gray -- Randal’s son Aidan--so handsome!!! Derick, shown with Randal on bottom left photo, is one of Randal’s right hand guys who also is in their fabulous store in McKinney!!!  From running stores, overseeing promotions, to traveling to venues or checking the production of the merchandise Derick is a jack of so many talents!!!   Thank you again Randal and the entire Aiden Gray staff for including us in a small way in your move to the 10th floor!!! We had so much fun painting the floors and visiting with you at market!!!!!!

We had a lot more shopping to do--Here is just a sampling of the crazy mix we bought!!!

Beatriz Ball’s pieces are made entirely by hand, one at a time, using the ancient art of sand casting: pouring a premium quality alloy of molten aluminum into sand molds, and then going through four levels of polishing. They have so many beautiful pieces reasonably priced and perfect for wedding gifts!!!!

I can’t wait to use some of these myself and can think of so many uses from notes to gift tags to fun gifts!!! Chalk Ink ® is the highest quality chalk marker on the planet. It works like a paint pen, yet looks like chalk. No dust, no smearing once dry. It comes off with water.  They come in so many colors and we carry the tags and paper and chalk boards as well!!!

Uniquely Fashion Cork!!

We currently carry this line in our store and I was so excited to see and order many of their new designs!!! Uniquely offers high-end and sophisticated cork fashion accessories that are entirely hand-made in Europe. They are truly unique!!! I just had to have those boots!!!

We were enamored with these muslin, bamboo and organic baby blankets, swaddles, bibs and more from Aden + Anais. An Orange a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

The color orange evokes strong emotions - it is one of the boldest, most active colors on the spectrum. Orange conjures up images of warmth, happiness, energy, and confidence - so it isn't surprising to see how prevalent it is in fashion and design.

Source

Color psychologists (and it looks like our icon Frank) say that "orange brings spontaneity and a positive outlook on life and is a great color to use during tough economic times, keeping us motivated and helping us to look on the bright side of life. With its enthusiasm for life, the color orange relates to adventure and risk-taking, inspiring physical confidence, competition and independence. Those inspired by orange are always on the go."

Source

Historically, the first use of the name "orange" as a color was in 1512. Before that, people simply referred to the color as yellow-red. Many cultures hail the color as a religious symbol - it is particularly important to the Hindu and Buddhist communities where it symbolizes divinity and illumination. Dating back to Greek and Roman mythology, the God of Wine and Ecstasy is depicted dressed in a vibrant orange.

Source

Orange decor such as lamps, pillows, and rugs are being used as accent pop colors today. Mixed with grays, blues and neutrals, it really seems to brighten a room. In fashion and design, my mom always said buy what you like, because trends change and always come back in fashion. This rug was used in a home around 1960 by Jane Gianarelli Interior Design. The design and color are still so current today!

Source

I love America's new design sweetheart Mary McDonald's fabric line which puts orange at the forefront combining it with grays. They seem to be a fresh twist on an old Gracie inspired design.

Source

Tory Burch is known for her love of vivid colors and bold design - even when it comes to the interior design of her stores. Many of them sport a signature orange color on both the walls and ceilings, encouraging you to shop!! I certainly get a smile on my face when I open one of Tory Burch's tangerine boxes during the gift giving season!!

Source

Tory  also seems to have jumped on the orange bandwagon in the decor of her apartment in the Pierre Hotel. Designer Daniel Romualdez, who handles the interiors of her stores, also takes the lead in her homes' decor.

Source

I love this high gloss orange ceiling from Elle Decor Magazine. When wanting any kind of high sheen paint on cabinetry, walls, or ceilings, remember the surface has to be absolutely perfect with no dings or imperfections as they will be enhanced by the sheen of the paint!

This orange and metallic gold wallpaper certainly makes a statement in this room. I think I will try this color combination with a hand painted stencil design.

The best part about orange? It has a best friend - the color blue. Blue and orange are complementary colors on the color wheel and as such, both contrast and highlight each other so deliciously. The duo acts as the perfect pair, particularly when working together in home interiors.

An orange a day keeps the doctor away!! It's been suggested that we all find small ways to use orange in our everyday lives as it encourages cheerfulness and optimism. In decor, maybe try a small dose of it like a pillow or pops of art to see how it  brightens your mood.

Orange, a visual representation of enthusiasm and passion for life, makes a perfect color for a fashion statement!!

Here is my daughter Kirby's fav orange outfit. Mixed with this chalcedony ring, the combo certainly is a hit! We got this ring at the The Menagerie in Austin, Texas.  If you are traveling in Austin it is worth the detour!!  Beautiful things wonderful prices.  Let Vicki know Leslie and Kirby sent you!!

I love the pops of orange in this tablescape but beware!!!! The color orange stimulates your appetite. Restaurants use orange in their design schemes in hopes of stimulating hunger, and therefore increasing the dollars spent at their eateries. If you're trying to lose that extra 10 pounds...(or 30 like me)...you might not want to paint your kitchen orange!!

Whats new in the Boutique for Valentine's Day............So excited to get a new shipment of Jewelry just in time! Below is a new line that we picked up priced from $22-$125, perfect to pick up for that special someone!!!

Valentines Dinner Party-One Hour and Counting!

Sometimes it's not about the elaborate gifts but just the simple gestures that show someone you care. A special card or handwritten note, a thoughtful dinner at home or even helping out with an unexpected errand are things that take more thought than money! Valentine's Day is all about celebrating love, so whether you spend it with one or many, it's all about showing each other that you care!

One of my best valentines surprises for my hubby was when I had a scavenger hunt for him! Starting with a note on his car which lead him to his first clue, his day was filled with small surprises which led him to a romantic dinner for two! He loved his day of treats and also loved me ripping up little pieces of paper and putting in his pockets drawers and unexpected places for him to find!

Source

Last year.. I decided to have some of our couple friends over for Valentines dinner! I had planned to leave work early, set a beautiful table, and prepare a special gourmet meal that I had researched and shopped for.

Leaving work late, I had no time to make what I had planned.  I had a just over an hour to set the table, make dinner and get dressed!!!!! Yikes--Costco to the rescue!!!!!! I decided to regroup and make pesto chicken with pasta. Fast, easy to make and tasty!!

For the appetizer I purchased Pita Pals' Texas Caviar Salad, hummus, Santa Barbara Bay's Spinach Parmesan Dip, pita chips, crackers, some healthy veggies and some freshly grated parmesan cheese.

If you put the dip into a casserole dish-hopefully one prettier than mine- put fresh parmesan cheese on top, then bake in the oven for about 20 min no one will believe it’s not homemade!!!

Source

Time permitting, these heart shaped cherry tomatoes would be really festive to add to a veggie tray!!!

Garnish and put on a big tray and Voila! an easy spread that everyone seemed to enjoy!!

If you are chardonnay drinkers, this wine was really good!!!  We had red as well!!

Source

This would have been the salad I would have chosen for my guests!!!

For the salad in a pinch, the Grand Parisian in the ready Pac bag gets rave reviews.  I added a few more things that just happen to be in my fridge, mixed it in a beautiful bowl and garnished with parmesan cheese.

I have made my own pesto sauce but honestly The Kirkland brand is really good.  I purchased this, some angel hair pasta and two of their rotisserie chickens!  If you become a fan, the pesto sauce is great over grilled salmon as well!!!

Just a few easy steps! Even my cute husband, John, all dressed in his Valentine's red, pitched in and helped!!  While the pasta was boiling, I cut up the rotisserie chicken into bite size chunks. When done, I mixed the chicken, pesto sauce (add to your liking!) and parmesan cheese together.

I folded the chicken mixture into the drained pasta and gently tossed it together.  Sprinkle with freshly grated parmesan cheese and the dish is done. Now I'm off to set the table!!

Quick and festive, I ran a paper runner down the table--love these that we carry in our shop from Kitchen Papers (at 50% off right now)!!!  So much easier than a table cloth, it adds interest and then after you use it, you can just throw it away!!!!  We also carry these pretty napkins and placemats by French Laundry. Thank goodness I have the store.  I went through my Christmas wrapping ribbons and found enough ribbon to use as a festive accent on the table.

The girls each got a rose on their plate and the boys got some candy!!!

Source

I would have liked to make a clever desert like the heart in the cupcake!!!  But................ had to make it easy and get the treats from my one stop store!!

These cookies are delish!  I did send John to pick up some cappuccino yogurt from Voss Yogurt in Houston. The cookies heated up and served with ice cream was the perfect ending to the meal.

We had so much fun at our dinner party for 8. Thank you Costco for coming to my rescue! I hope that you all have a wonderful Valentine’s day!  If you are looking for that special gift please stop by the store--We have fab clocks, ties, and trays for the guys and stunning jewelry, lotions, candles, purses, makeup bags, crystals on acrylic bases and more for that special gal. We also are getting in lots from market!!!!!!!!!!!!  And......our cross bottle collection is a half off this week!!!! Below is a small sampling of what is new!!!

Tufted

I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day!! This year my hubby, John, forgot what day Valentine’s day fell on and planned a ski trip! Soooooo….  I went over to a good friend's house that I hadn’t seen in a long time and we had take-out and caught up! It was a lot of fun!

Anthropologie

These days you can't pull up Pinterest or a design magazine without coming across tufting. From tufted headboards to benches to whole walls, this timeless style can be adapted to fit in any surrounding.

Source

Tufting has a long history in the art of upholstery. First developed to secure thickly padded mattresses when quilting was inadequate, artisans began using tufting in upholstered pieces in the 18th century when comfort became a key consideration in furniture.

Source

Designers in Europe began creating more sofas and chairs with backs, cushioning and springs for added comfort in the late 1700s. This was a vast difference from earlier designs, where benches were more popular with the masses and sofas with backs were rare!

Source

In the 1800s, the Industrial Revolution in England made fabrics and furniture manufacturing more readily available and affordable to all, allowing for more affordable upholstered furniture. The popularity was so great that the Victorian era was dubbed by some "the Age of Upholstery."

Source

The original Chesterfield sofa is one of the most iconic tufted designs from this era. This design has stood the test of time. With the recent rise of popularity for vintage style and sturdy comfortable pieces, the Chesterfield sofa and variations of it have been popping up in many contemporary homes and stores. It was originally a favorite for gentlemen's gathering places, but now can be found in countless different materials and in all kinds of design schemes.

Source

I love all the creative uses of tufting today. The structure of the pattern naturally creates an interesting texture. From tufted walls to tufted headboards to tufted bathtubs, designers have found creative ways to incorporate it into any room.  See some of my favorite examples below!!!!!!

Portrait Perfect

$

While I was working on a project for one of my clients, we started talking about this amazing portrait artist she had met and wanted to show me his book. At first glance, I thought it was a book of portrait photography, but then I realized artist David Larned (http://www.davidlarned.com/) created some of the most beautiful painted portraits I had ever seen. When the client told me that David will be moving to Houston, I immediately had to find out more information and contacted him!!!

I always enjoy getting to know and share the stories of other people who do what they love, and David Larned is certainly one of those people! Though he always painted, it wasn’t until college that David decided he wanted to make a life out of it. “I realized that art was the only class I was truly passionate about.  From that moment on, I never looked back.”

With his father in the Navy, David was accustomed to moving around the country every couple years as a child.  More geared to military bases than art museums, his family was in foreign territory when it came to their son’s proclivity for painting. “They didn’t know what was happening. Neither did I. But now that [my art career] has worked out, they take credit for it!”

David’s work focuses primarily on portraits, but also enjoys painting landscapes, and still life.  In a realistic, technical style reminiscent of 19th and 20th century European and American realists, his paintings explore what makes people and places so intensely beautiful.

After his first exhibition, he started receiving an overwhelming number of portrait requests and knew that portraiture was something to gravitate towards.

The first step in doing portraits is getting to know his subjects. In order to capture their personality in two-dimensional form, David relies on his intuition more than factual research. “Portrait painters should be able to sense who their subjects are without having to rely on their resume.”

The exceptional quality is worth the investment. Not only do you get a beautiful work of art, but it becomes a family heirloom to be passed down through the generations.

The process begins with an hour-long photo session since only very rarely does he come across someone who wants to sit for the full 60+ hours.

Back at his studio, David usually works on a couple pieces at a time. Always wanting to be painting something, he’s found that this approach keeps him busy - while one piece is drying, he can turn his attention to the other.

David has had a few unusual requests. He once was commissioned to paint a recognizable portrait of a woman who didn’t want her face to show! Somehow, he found a way to get the back of her head to look just like her!

His favorite projects are the ones where the client lets him do his own thing! “They always get a better product for it!”

One perks of the profession that David never expected is the opportunity to work with an impressive array of celebrities, well-known businessmen and women, and other household names.  Born in New York and most recently based in Chester County outside of Philadelphia, the artist has done portraits for the who’s who of the tristate area…

And he is now getting into the Houston scene as well… As I was browsing through his portfolio, I was surprised to find the portrait of these clients of mine!!! Capturing their personalities, something so tough to do in painting portraits I was even more enchanted with his pieces!

Planning to move from their home in West Chester, Pennsylvania, David, his wife, and their 3 year-old daughter will be relocating to Houston! Though initially for work and adventure, he says, “watching our daughter thrive here has given it a much more meaningful purpose. We think [Houston] is the best place we know to raise our daughter.”  Raising all 3 of my kids here, I couldn’t agree more!!!

David’s wife, Sarah Lamb (http://www.sarahlamb.net/index.html), is also an immensely talented artist. With a body of work comprising mostly still life pieces, Sarah has exhibited in solo shows several times at Meredith Long & Company here in Houston, as well as at Spanierman Gallery in NY and John Pence Gallery in San Francisco among othe galleries.   She also does beautiful commission pieces!!!

Big thanks to David for sharing his story with me!  You can find out even more about David on his website (http://www.davidlarned.com/), and if you are interested in commissioning him to do a portrait of you or your loved ones, you can email him at davelarned@hotmail.com.

’Til next week!

Only 262 Miles to Buc-ee's!

A road trip through Texas would not be a road trip without family, friends and a stop at Buc-ees.  If you live in Texas, most of you have discovered this “Bathroom Beacon” on your destination drives.  After stopping and re-fueling both the car and our bellies, we got a little curious about the history of Buc-ees, so for you history buffs:

Arch “Beaver” Aplin is a Texas entrepreneur and Texas A&M graduate who founded Buc-ee’s.  Alpin and his business partner, Don Wasek, opened their first store in Lake Jackson, Texas in 1982 with a focus on cheap ice cream and clean bathrooms.  It was so successful, they decided to expand, and now have 27 locations around the state.

If you just stop to get gas and use the potty and leave, you have not EXPERIENCED Buc-ees, so let me give you a few ways to spend your time and money at this Texas phenomenon, to help you to enjoy the whole Buc-ees experience.

Check out the “Historical” marker on your way to the bathroom.  Only in Texas!

Fudge, fudge and more fudge – over a DOZEN kinds!  All made In- House!

In-House Roasted Nuts!  Peanuts, almonds, but the BEST are the roasted cashews!

Fresh barbeque sandwiches, smoked and sliced right in front of you! The sandwich buns are soft and moist and the chopped beef, lean and so flavorful.  We had ours with onions and pickles, buyer beware….Buc-ees does not skimp on the onions, so be sure your road trip buddies enjoy onions on theirs as well!

How can you choose between a dozen different jerkies??  We bought the Hunter Peppered Beef, the Hill County Bohemian Garlic and since it is the new year and I am aiming at healthy, I bought the Peppered Turkey Jerky.  All were incredibly delicious!  Jerky Is the perfect accompaniment to the road trip, you can chew, talk and drive for hours!  Don’t tell anyone, but I spent $65 on jerky, I think I was in the Buc-ees experience overdrive.

They have stuff in jars….lots of stuff…anything from cherry cobbler to pickled quail eggs, but the best thing in a  jar at Buc-ees is Buc-ees Loco Cheese Dip! It’s really just queso, but try it!  Muy delicioso! Arriba!

Are you starting to EXPERIENCE Buc-ees yet?  Let’s keep going…

Here are just some other food items to enjoy on your stop:

Kolaches – a DOZEN different kinds, Banana Pudding in a cup, Mini pies (Apple Crumb is the best!)  Beaver Nuggets (toasted corn puffs), Dippin’ Dots ice cream, Cobb Salad,  Wrap sandwiches in every flavor, and don’t leave without the Jalapeno Cheese Bread.  Buy 5 loaves and freeze it.  Pull one out when you are having guests, warm it and tell them it’s homemade!  They’ll never know the difference …..shhhhh…

Enough about food, let’s move on to merchandise.  Buc-ees has everything from Feral Hog traps and deer corn to a whole line of jewelry, home accent pieces and clothing.  If you have kids at home, you have seen the Buc-ees logo on everything!

Such a smart marketing ploy to make your logo that cute little beaver!  Look around and you will find “Beaver University” shirts, pajamas, hats, sweatpants and shirts, jackets and more!  My friend, Lisa, who wrote this wonderful post, bought some slippers and a coffee cup for her friend’s birthday.  Both Toni and Lisa bought sweatpants.

Part of Buc-ees success stems from the friendly, helpful local  employees, who smile and greet you and can answer any questions about the establishment.

Don’t leave without getting your photo in front of the 12 foot stuffed beaver, there is also a large one at the front door! Thanks Lisa for giving us your Buc-ees favs!! I certainly had more fun on the trip with you and sweet Toni!!!

I’d love to hear back from some of you on your favorite Buc-ees  items!

Happy Traveling!  Till Next Monday!!  xo,  Leslie

Brass

From ancient coinage to plumbing to gilded walls, brass has a long and diverse history in design. It's most recently come back into fashion as a versatile accent color and material that complements all from the most traditional to most modern homes. It adds a warmth to an interior space that can't be achieved with the silvers, chromes and nickels that have dominated the metal finishes of the past four decades.

Elle Decor

Contemporary brass finishes have a wide range from the un-laquered to brushed to shiny. The golden hue adds an elegant touch to any room.  Un-laquered brass develops a lovely patina as it ages, drawing out the warmth and character of each individual piece - especially in items like faucets and handles that see a lot of activity. With a vast number of choices of modern, traditional and organic forms available on the market, it is easy to find brass elements that fit into any style.

Architectural Digest

It also mixes very well with other metal finishes. When choosing a sheen or finish, always consider the room as a whole. Brass makes a big statement, so it's important to be conscious of how it's being used whether it's a large area or a small accent or hardware.

Acero Bella

I am starting my master bath remodel today and have decided to join the brass bandwagon. These are the faucets that I have selected from Acero Bella.  We did some of the finishes in their beautiful new showroom and I just fell in love! Very contemporary for me so my thought is to mix them with old stones and built in elements! See below our picks for beautiful brass!

My Craft room/ Office is Complete!!!

$

The first part of my house renovation is complete! We transformed the old Segreto offices (that used to hold 4 of us!) into a craft room for me!

I am loving the new space. There is room for my gift storage, a wrapping station, sewing station, work table, desk and sink area. Now I have lots of great storage space to keep everything neatly out of sight!

This is my sewing station! I loved all of the linen fabrics from Segreto's office space so I used some of the leftover fabric to soften the room. This is one instance that being a hoarder paid off--sometimes it pays to hold onto things!!

My favorite part of the office is this bulletin board! I wanted to carry the fabric onto the bulletin board so we hand-painted a trompe l'oeil tufted design complete with a painted metal band that appears to be holding it in place over cork!

I store the sewing machine under the skirt and even built in an ironing board from Reva shelf.  The skirt is velcrowed onto the cabinets so it's easy to open and close. The wire basket is from One Kings Lane and the wicker baskets are from Ikea to store thread, needles and leftover fabrics.

The middle section is an old storage unit from my closet.  I had it built into the space and then installed a rod to hang drapes in front. Lots of storage for gifts and boxes.

The far left side is my wrapping station.  We used copper pipes to make the rods for the ribbons. The baskets underneath and above are from Ikea and the glass jars are from our store. When the carpenter built the drawer fronts, I really liked the grain of the pine so I decided to stain them, pulling tones from the linen fabric and kept the rest of the built-ins white and unglazed.  I ended up using Benjamin Moore Seed Pearl in a low voc waterborne enamel paint for my trim paint. Oil brand products are on the way out so it’s good to begin making the transition with new projects in your home.

When you walk in the door, the wall to the right houses a sink, fridge and lots of storage for paints, brushes, and crafty items. The linen boxes, which I felt I really scored with, are from a late night internet shopping venture, half off from One Kings Lane.

The shelves were already there so we retrofitted them to put in the sink and the cooler.  There was just enough space left over for two pull out compartments, one for cleaning products the other one will be perfect for paints. I really wanted to have stainless counters to mix a little old world with industrial style.  Looking into the cost, I found a stainless steel paint that would give me the look for less. At 100$, painting was the way to go.  This product is used mainly for refrigerator fronts, so I will let you know how it holds up for counters.  The handles from home depot gave me the bit of contemporary I was looking for.

This is where I work from home! Right now I am super busy writing book 2, so I love having two screens and a quiet place away from Segreto's hustle and bustle! I took the desk from my existing office, a great piece that I found at a second hand store years ago, and painted and built it in to the new layout.

At the Segreto offices, we refinished and used my old shutters as door fronts to a storage closet and I love the effect! I wanted to use the remainder of them in my home office.  Just the right size, they make perfect storage compartments and house scrapbooking materials, books I would like to read and my printer. They were previously painted white and the new texture and glazes that we applied really give them the age old charm I was looking for!!

And I can't forget about the floors!!  They were originally stained 12 years ago by Gunnels concrete. I wanted to add a bit of a twist in the new space so we did an allover stencil a top of the existing finish. We used a porch and floor paint from Sherwin Williams that should hold up to heavy traffic or paint spills!!!!  The table, chairs and light fixture were used in my breakfast area and work perfectly here with their new finish!  I hope you enjoyed the craft room renovation!  We have started the update to the rest of our home as well. I can't wait to show you the progress along the way!! Til' next Monday!!  Xo  Leslie

Ken Newberry - An Architect Extraordinaire

$

0

Although I love my home, we've lived here for 27 years, and I really wanted to make some changes to the areas that have been bothering me for years.

This room will stay intact but the front elevation and the staircase are two things that I've never liked.  Spurred on by our old galvanized pipes bursting, we decided to revamp our bathrooms and tackle the front elevation and staircase issues.

Ken Newberry, the founding principal of Newberry Campa Architects, is an architect whom I have always truly admired!  Working with him on the most amazing projects (see above), I honestly was a bit nervous to approach him about helping out. Here are a few more of the gorgeous homes that we've done together:

Designer: Cathy Chapman

Designer: Kara Childress

Seeing him at a job, I took a moment to discuss my small project and see if he'd be interested in taking it on. He said "YES" enthusiastically!!! We started with the interior, and I was simply amazed by the outcome.

We have a narrow entrance and a very large staircase that ends 3 ft from my front door. Ken immediately explained why it's been troubling me all this time... our staircase is backwards or upside-down!  Most of these "Gone with the Wind" staircases are placed in grander entrances so they start smaller at the top and then curve out at the bottom. Ours, however, is the reverse - it starts very large at the top and gets smaller at the base.

Here's the plan. By taking the staircase across and down and widening the entrances to the living room and dining room, Ken visually increases the size of the entrance way. The staircase balustrade forms a wall going into the music room. To downplay the huge ceiling differences between the entrance and the neighboring rooms (which have 9 ft ceilings), he suggested raising and widening  the openings to the living room and dining room. If this isn’t brilliant enough, he also opened up the area behind the music room and turned it into a study, complete with sliding barn doors on rails. This way, you can look straight through this side of the house to a garden he designed beyond the new iron doors.

Here is his drawing of the front of my house--They drew me in younger and thinner!!! Told you they were nice!!!

Here is the house!!  The exterior is the most drastic of all the changes!!! The front, in my opinion, seemed very tall with a sloping roof line on either side. Please don’t look at the landscaping... we've let it go because of this project. Yikes!!!

The after is just stunning! He took my 60s home and transformed it completely! I told Ken and gang how much I love the architecture of the 1930s and how I wanted an updated slant. When they went over the final plans with me, I teared up... Ken and his team, sweet as they are, thought I didn’t like what they had done, but I LOVED it!!! What a drastic change - turning the home I love because of all the memories held there into a home style I have only dreamt about!!!!!!!! Ken, Will and Gina are all soooooo nice and just incredibly talented!

A bit about Ken!

After receiving his bachelors degree in Architecture from the University of Houston, he attended the University of Rome in Florence and Rome, Italy. He's a licensed architect in the states of Texas, Colorado, Florida and Virginia, and he's also a LEED Accredited Professional for New Construction with the US Green Building Council. Recognized for his progressive use of traditional and modern construction materials in both new construction and remodeling projects, Ken's work includes custom residential, commercial, restaurant, and retail projects.

Ken is as nice and generous as he is talented!  As the founding board member of Starfish Kenya, he travels to Kenya and works with his firm to design of all of the buildings and facilities at the House of Hope Orphanages. He also serves on the executive board for the AIDS Foundation Houston, and he's a member of the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance and the Houston Heights Association. A founding member of the Boys to Men Texas Chapter, Ken has also helped to bring this mentoring program to Texas.

Well, I think everyone is just as enamored with the phenomenal change to my home's front elevation as I am. Ken Newberry and his team at Newberry Campa Architects were not only responsive and creative, but they really took my home, built in the 60s, into the next generation. Nice, down to earth, extremely talented, and just brilliant! I highly recommend them!!!!!!!

Picking out my Fixtures at Acero Bella

Well, I am busy shopping for plumbing fixtures for my new master bath makeover!! Located at 8560 Katy Freeway, Acero Bella is super close to my offices!!! They are in the same office warehouse as Back Row Antiques, behind Home Depot.

We first met Chas and designer, Desiree Guillory last summer when they called us to do a few special finishes in the new space including their logo right as you walk in! The name “Acero Bella”, which translates to “ Beautiful Steel” in English, came from one of their neighbors over a breakfast brainstorming session. Love that!!

Their beautiful showroom, which opened summer of 2013, has so many built in displays that make it easy to visualize what a tub sink or shower head would look like in your own space. I don't take baths--don't worry I do shower-- but my husband who is super athletic loves a tub to soak his sore muscles after a tennis game. After talking to them in depth, it seemed that the new rage-- air jets-- wouldn't do the trick, and that he needed an air/ whirlpool combination!!!

We settled on a Jason 635 white undermount tub. I hope he likes it!  I couldn't get that husband of mine to go and shop for it with me!!!!  Anyone else ever have that problem?!  Now off to Faucets!

There are so many to choose from!!  This is just a few of the many displays. The incredible selection makes the decision so difficult!!

Even though I tend to lean more traditional, I just fell in love with the contemporary plumbing fixtures.

Thank goodness Acero Bella centers around customer service! Poor Sarah West, a friend and  consultant who specializes, in selecting fixtures, ligthing, surfaces and architectural elements and Beth, the wonderful Acero Bella specialist, had to watch me go back and forth back and forth. And the winner is?!!!!

A wonderful collection from Newport!!!! This was my splurge! I really liked how the old world feel of unlacquered brass would mix with old stone, mirrors and other elements in my bathroom!  Let's see if I can pull off my antique mixed with modern concept!!

Here is the entire collection I purchased-rain head and all, shown in polished nickel. The silver tones are much more popular in todays design, and also very beautiful!

We are also renovating the two upstairs baths!  Both girls are girly girls so I chose this faucet and shower tub fixture for both of them in polished nickel, their most popular finish.

Going through the showroom it's easy to get distracted!  They carry many appliances including Fhiaba, a line of Italian refrigeration with uniquely customizable temperature zones.  It has an all stainless steel interior and you can change all the drawers and compartments from freezer to refrigeration!  What will they think of next?

I also fell in love with  the Italian cooking line, Bertazzoni, shown here in red.  What a statement piece for any kitchen! It's got to be good!  Those Italians really know how to cook!!!

Another Segreto cameo in the showroom- We plastered the hood for their kitchen display on the left!

Now off to sinks!!!

With so many to choose from I felt, I needed to stay simple with the sink design and let the plumbing speak for itself.

Acero Bella carries all types of hardware for doors, baths and cabinets.  Some of their most popular lines are Rocky Mountain, Van Morris and Ashley Morton. Chas says contemporary trends are still the dominating style but recent clients are very open minded to ornate and un-lacquered brass finishes, too. She says it’s easy for clients to get overwhelmed by all of the choices so they have each piece of hardware mounted individually so it’s easier to narrow down selections and choose the "jewelry" for their home. LOVE THESE DISPLAYS!

Chas's vision is to create an environment that is enjoyable for both the customers and the staff. She says “ The construction world is challenging and customer service is a dying art. I wanted to create a nurturing environment for homeowners that allows them to enjoy the process of creating their dream homes.”  I certainly felt that walking in and throughout the process!!! Thank you sweet Sarah and Beth for helping through the process!!!

Acero Bella is located at 8560 Katy Frwy, suite 160. You can find Acero Bella, Segreto Finishes and our other design resource friends in the neighborhood in our new maps! They are complimentary and available at our shop 1414 Antoine Dr or any of the other participating businesses!

Until next week! XO Leslie

A Week with Segreto!

I hope everyone had a wonderful week! Last week I went to a preview of the Marburger Farms Antique show in Roundtop!!!  As usual, the wonderful dealers have totally outdone themselves with some fab finds!  Here are some of my favorites!

We have certainly been busy at Segreto! Over the last year, I have hired and trained new people to try to get to my WONDERFUL clients in a timely manner.  We have finally done it!! Now on a larger job we can typically get to you in 3-6 weeks vs 3-6 months!!! Thanks to everyone for your patience while we were going through growing pains!!! I so appreciate your business and support, so keep on calling!!!  Here is a small sampling of some fun projects we are working on!

This finish, done like the olden days, is made from homeade paints, waxes and yes even beer and cottage cheese. Gives you that very rustic feel, perfect for this kitchen full of reclaimed woods, antique doors and fireplaces dating back to 1702! Sarah West, architectural consultant, was the sweet person we worked with on this one!!!

Formal and refined, this nook behind the master tub needed a finishing touch.  This dogwood design for designer extraordinaire, Sarah Eilers really did the trick!

Wanting to add a bit of "Frenchy" blue to her island, we applied a furniture quality finish for this homeowner, to give the kitchen a bit more pizazz!!!

Just in the midst of it--this mural is coming to life on a powder bath wall!!  Full of drama, it is a true conversation piece!

In this kitchen, there was a wooden relief above the cabinetry that seemed a bit bare untouched.  We did a glaze to give it some depth and then stenciled a design to add an extra special touch!

Love this kitchen we have started for Designer Tami Owen!!  The hood is already plastered and now we are starting on the cabinet work. Love those lanterns!

This client wanted to create a special space for grandchildren visits and the door to the toy closet just seemed to lack fun! We painted a fireplace scene on top including handpainted delft tile, brick molding and a painting of this special grandmother with her little one! SO cute!!!

I love the transformation that applying glazes over raw wood can make.  This study built with pecky cypess felt dated to this owner.  They wanted to transition from an orange tone to a light gray. We applied glazes directly over the existing finish, which eliminated the the need to strip the woodwork and start from scratch!

I always love to see the transformation that our workshop creates with the furniture pieces they work on!  What a change, I wanted to keep this one!!!!

Even before the final clean these floors are full of fun and whimsy!!  This design, inspired by a fabric, makes a big statement in this home office we did for Designer Bobby Farkas.

AGAIN - Thank You all for your patience in waiting for your jobs to be completed!  Spread the word that we are caught up and ready to quickly get to your job!!  As an appreciation to our customers, we are offering you 20% off on any item at our store during our trunk show extravaganza next Thursday April 10th from 10:00- 7:00PM!! Just say you saw the discount on the blog,  Stock up for graduation and for Mother's day!!! See the invitation below!!  xo  Hope to see you next Thursday!!! Leslie
